Description
Here we have an original A.C. Gilbert Erector Set motor, #P-58. This was made about 1920 or possibly as early as 1915. It was tested for a minute or two with a DC power supply at 2.5V and ran speedily, using about 1 to 1.5 Amps. All original and complete. This motor is different than other P-58's as it has a shaft with an integrated pulley on one end. Also the cloth insulation on much if the wiring has been lost over the many years since this was made. So any handling can (and did for me) short out the motor preventing operation. Since the motor is vert old and insulation is in poor condition, I cannot guarantee reliable running.
If you plan on running this motor reliably, the wiring should be replaced or re-insulated and the motor fully cleaned and lubricated.
Condition for P-58:
Condition is generally G (C-5) with oxidation, playwear, and loss of wiring insulation. This is normal for original items from 1920.
Very low starting bid and no reserve! If you win this auction you will receive exactly the single P-58 motor that is shown in the photographs.
